Colon – Internal Cleansing
To maintain good health, your body must effectively eliminate food and bodily waste. Your colon — together with your lungs, skin and kidneys — are designed to accomplish this essential task by eliminating toxins in the intestines, blood and lymph systems.
The main functions of the colon are absorption of water and minerals, and the formation and elimination of faeces. The colon contains nearly 60 varieties of micro flora or bacteria to aid digestion, promote vital nutrient production, to maintain pH (acid-base) balance, and to prevent proliferation of harmful bacteria. The process of digestion from ingestion of food to defecation, normally takes between 12 to 24 hours assuming that the colon is fully functional and non-toxic. Irregular or infrequent bowel movements can allow toxic residues, from the by-products of undigested foods, to remain in the colon.
Colon-cleansing enthusiasts believe that periodically cleaning from the inside out removes waste stuck to the colon walls. This waste build up also supposedly produces toxins that enter the blood and may be slowly poisoning people, contributing to a variety of symptoms — fatigue, bloating, irritated skin and weight gain — and health problems, from depression and allergies to arthritis and cancer.
There are a few options available for cleansing the colon
Cleansing proponents promote two ways to clean the colon. One method involves taking bowel-clearing laxatives, powders or supplements; using enemas; or drinking herbal teas to purportedly release colon waste and discharge toxins. But using this method might feel more like frequently running to the bathroom with diarrhea.
Apart from these two, colon cleansing kits are available that help in cleansing the colon. It contains vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements which help cleanse the colon.
Then there is enema– The patient expels feces along with the enema in the toilet after administration. Enemas may be used to relieve constipation and fecal impaction; although in many medical settings their use has been largely replaced by oral laxatives and laxative suppositories. Laxative enemas may consist of water, which works primarily as a mechanical laxative; sodium phosphate solution, which draws additional water from the bloodstream into the colon and increases the effectiveness of the enema; or mineral oil, which functions as a lubricant and stool softener. Other types of solutions are available as well. In the past soap was a common additive to enemas, but it has largely fallen out of use because of the risk of chemical-induced colitis as well as the ready availability of other enema preparations that are more effective than soap.
If one does not want to get into the difficult process of using enema or the expensive method of colon cleansing kits then one should go the natural way which is to have fresh water and that is one of the greatest detoxifiers you use to cleanse your body.
It helps clean out your digestive system as well as other organ systems such as your circulatory, and lymph systems. There are fruits and vegetables that help in cleansing the colon and help a lot.
And finally there is Master Cleanse Diet that helps in keep the colon healthy and it is also known as the Lemonade Diet. In order to be able to properly detoxify and flush the body, the Lemonade Diet must be followed strictly for 3 to 10 days.
